We provide supportive housing solutions for Veterans, seniors, and re-entering individuals. Our program focuses on creating safe, stable, and supportive environments that foster independence and life-skills training for individuals working to rebuild their lives.

Our program is designed for individuals who are high-functioning and capable of living independently. This is not a personal care home, nursing home, or assisted living facility. We do not provide medical care, personal assistance, or supervision.

You must be able to manage your own:

Personal hygiene and grooming
Meal preparation and eating
Medication (unless managed by an outside provider)
Mobility and transportation arrangements
Housekeeping and laundry
Daily living responsibilities

If you require medical or personal care services, they must be provided by a licensed outside agency or caregiver, arranged and paid for separately.

What is a shared living environment?

A shared-living environment at Miles Independent Living is built around community and connection. Program participants share kitchens, bathrooms, living rooms, and other common areas, and most bedrooms are shared as well. This structure isn’t just about housing—it's part of a supportive program designed to help individuals rebuild and thrive.

Who is this type of housing for?

This type of housing is designed for individuals transitioning from challenging circumstances—such as housing instability, incarceration, or aging—who are seeking stable, affordable housing and are committed to living in a respectful community environment.

Does Miles Independent Living provide medical care or meals?

Miles Independent Living does not provide direct care or meals.

Our program is built around independent living in a supportive, shared environment. Program participants prepare their own meals using the fully equipped kitchen, and each home includes the appliances, cookware, and shared dining space needed to make that easy.

While we don’t offer personal care services, our team is always available to provide guidance, connect participants with community resources, and help ensure the home remains a stable, respectful place for everyone.

How many people live in the home?

Each home offers a warm, community-centered environment where program participants share space in a way that respects both comfort and independence, with shared rooms being common. The living arrangement may vary depending on the house.

What is included in the monthly cost?

Your monthly program fee includes all utilities, comfortable furnishings, high speed Wi-Fi, access to shared common areas, and 24/7 surveillance.

Our pricing stays simple—no hidden service fees, no surprises. While our rates are not income-based, we gladly accept most subsidies and vouchers, which can help reduce monthly costs for those who qualify.

Is there a lease or contract?

Program participants join Miles Independent Living as members of a structured program, not as traditional tenants, so there is no lease agreement. Instead, each participant signs a Program Participation Agreement that outlines expectations, house guidelines, and shared responsibilities that help maintain a stable, respectful living environment.

Membership continues as long as program guidelines are upheld. Repeated or serious violations may result in early dismissal from the program to protect the safety and wellbeing of the household.

What furniture is provided?

Rooms typically come furnished with a bed, dresser, and often a small table or chair to help program participants settle in comfortably. All common areas are fully furnished throughout the home. Each house also includes a full kitchen equipped with appliances, cookware, and shared dining furniture, creating a warm, welcoming space for program participants to cook, gather, and feel at home.

What are the house rules?

House rules support a respectful and comfortable living space. Common rules like quiet hours, cleanliness, guest policies, and shared responsibilities are posted in the home and outlined in the Program Agreement.

Is transportation provided?

While transportation services are not provided, ride-share apps such as Lyft and Uber serve all of our locations. Some homes are conveniently located near public transportation. We offer scheduled transportation to local food pantries.

Are Miles Independent Living homes safe?

Safety is a priority. Homes often have security measures like locks, cameras in common areas, and house managers or staff onsite or on call.

Do I have privacy?

While spaces are shared, each resident has personal storage and private time is respected.

How is conflict handled between participants?

There is typically a conflict resolution process, and staff or a house manager helps mediate when necessary.

What documents do I need?

You will need a valid government-issued ID and proof of income. This may include SSI/SSDI award letters, VA disability documentation, housing voucher paperwork, or paystubs.
